“As one might expect, moving to a foreign country comes not only with a certain level of adventure and opportunity, but also it’s fair number of hurdles. Fortunately, I was able to attend the Tokyo International Exchange College (TIEC) ,Like several of my schoolmates, I arrived with almost no comprehension of the Japanese language and even less understanding of the culture around me. This is where I was glad to have the much needed support of both the teachers and classmates around me. Through my time at TIEC, I was able to build both my language skills and the necessary confidence needed for interacting with the once foreign community I now call a second home. Before graduation, I was lucky enough to secure a position in Engineering here in Tokyo where I communicate primarily in Japanese on a daily basis. While I do believe there is a long road to success for any foreigner wishing to make it in Japan, I personally am glad I was able to start mine with the staff and friends I made while at TIEC.” |

I started studying Japanese because I was interested in Kimono and other cultures of Japan after I watched Japanese TV show called “Oshin”. I decided to come to Japan as a foreign student because I wanted to acquire global way of thinking as well as deepen my understanding of Japan. I now deeply think I made the right decision to enter Tokyo International Exchange College which holds a lot of multicultural foreign students. I spent full-filling time at school with good, fun memory while I was learning Japanese language. I’ve also learned that I need a lot of effort to achieve my goals. So now I’m trying my best to do everything. And I participated in a Japanese speech contest in December 2016 to tell my Japanese former teacher in Uzbekistan whom I really appreciate, and I won the first prize. I was nervous because other participants were giving good speech, but I could done my best because of the support and corporation of teachers and classmates. |
